Educator, cell phone salesman, dock worker, newspaper editor, lead singer of a rock band, proofreader, custodian: writer D.L. Shiloh has had a wide-variety of life and work experience, which inevitably seems to find its way to the written page.
"You find work that allows you to write," D.L. said. "And whatever project, whether a book, film or TV that I end up doing, I've got a new take on those scenes. People can connect with that bit of reality. It's a real element to bring and my journalism background really helps. A writer ought to be embedded into whatever experience he brings you."
He started a sports information site in 2002, and had $40K in ad sales in only 18 months. The site, which he sold, now boasts 3 million unique hits.
In the late 1990s, as research for a sci-fi book titled THE EYEWITNESS, Shiloh founded the indie rock band "SINGED" with guitarist Art Turner (second from left in picture) and performed at FIRST NIGHT. Later, with Madison, Wisconsin-based blues man LaVerne Pink, SINGED played in venues such as an"in-store" event at Media Play, and most recently at the 2006 Hiroshima Remembrance event. The largest forum performed was in front of 2,000 people.
He produced celebrity and expert internet chat events on AOL in the mid-90s which led him to an 18-month PR for Colonel Fred Olivi, co-pilot on the Nagasaki atomic bomb mission that ended WW II. Shiloh hosted the 2008 Comcast show "The Rush Coaches' Weekly Cable TV Show." He is currently at work on a new novel.
